I was blessed to meet Kim and Adam but in the most unfortunate of circumstances.  Their original cake artist was unable to make their cake do to a health issue so they were scrambling about 6 weeks prior to their wedding to find someone new.

Kim and Adam already knew exactly what they wanted for a wedding cake, having found a photo online months in advance.  It was to be a four tier round cake with a different design on each tier.  The cake was to be ivory with white piping and fresh autumn flowers, which were spectacular by the way!

Adam wanted a cake that looked like a dam that he may have helped design at work.  We had so much fun talking about the groom’s dam cake!  Adam had several photos for inspiration and had drawn the cake out as it was pictured in his mind.  He really helped his cake come to life.

Kim and Adam were married at the Hermitage Golf Course of Old Hickory in the Rose Garden.  The weather could not have been more perfect for their 6pm wedding.  It was a gorgeous day with sun, a slight breeze, and temperatures in the high 70s.  It may have been the most perfect day of the year.  They are so lucky!

The Hermitage dressed up for autumn and draped with fabric and lights-gorgeous!

Kim’s bridal cake was tiers of Strawberry cake with Chocolate ganache, French Vanilla tiers filled with Pina Colada and Raspberry fillings and Adam’s cake was Chocolate.  All were covered with Cheesecake Buttercream.  I have to say that I absolutely love fall weddings and this was one of my favorites yet.  The flowers were gorgeous, the colors were beautiful and soft and Kim and Adam couldn’t have been happier.

Kim and Adam, may your love always shine as bright as the sunshine on your wedding day!

Dani’s Mommy Shower

October 11th, 2011

I have some incredible friends in the biz, especially a tight-knit group in Clarksville.  My friend Beth, owner of Clarksville Brides.com and Bowling Green Brides.com has one of the sweetest daughters you will ever meet.  Danielle is very vibrant and charismatic, and is not the owner of Turning Point Productions and Clarksville Linen Rental, but is also a wife to a really fun guy and mommy to an adorable little boy.  Dani is pregnant with another boy and insisted she did not want a shower because she already had everything so her friends decided to throw her a surprise “Mommy Shower”.

A Mommy Shower is all about making sure the mommy is taken care of with all of her favorite things before and after the baby is born.  She received sweats and jammie pants, books, lotions, spa certificates, candles, and cake!  Dani will definitely reap the benefit for awhile and she deserves it!

Dani’s surprise shower was planned by two of her besties, Bethany of Bethany Ann Photography and Blaire, a former bride of mine.  Dani is so lucky to have such great friends.  They are super sweet and always up for anything.  There were so many terrific ladies at Dani’s shower and it was a really fun evening of laughs and hugs.

Blaire and I are huge fans of Cake Wrecks and she thought it would be hilarious to put the Naked Baby Mohawk Carrot Jockeys on Dani’s carrot cake.  Let me tell you, those babies aren’t easily found!  I went to four different places and finally settled on non-mohawked little babies and a topper that I forced to ride the carrot.  There were WAY too many comments about how the carrot jockey was obviously because she was having a boy.  Oh my.

Blaire brought her own copy of Cake Wrecks along so those unfamiliar with the site could see that the cake was obviously a remake and not something I typically do for showers.  I wouldn’t want those who didn’t know my work to think I really made that up!

I am so fortunate to be in a great business surrounded by such incredible and talented friends.  OH, and before I forget, all photos are property of Bethany Ann Photography!

Dani, my wish for you is a fast and easy delivery of that new bouncing boy!

I was able to meet with Melissa and Nathan and the family when she was in town getting some planning done in March, as she was living in Chattanooga at the time.  Melissa and Nathan had some good ideas of what they wanted and I made a few mockup designs to help them narrow it down.

Melissa was also using the popular Lapis color and knew she wanted it incorporated on the cake.  She knew she liked squares and was pretty sure she wanted something offset that was just a little different than the norm.  She loved scrollwork and quilting patterns so we decided to mix them up and do both.  Melissa wanted calla lillies incorporated on the cake so we decided on light purple callas with lapis tips.  We also incorporated the lapis in fondant ribbons wrapping the tiers.

Nathan wanted his groom’s cake to be a replica of one of his racing helmets with the wedding date on the front.  His cake was so much fun to make and I loved the incorporation of that perfect date, 9-10-11!!  Nathan had better remember their wedding date.   Nathan’s cake was a delicious chocolate cake, as is common with my grooms.

Melissa’s cake was French Vanilla and Lemon filled with lemon curd, all covered with vanilla buttercream.  There is just something about that lemon curd that sets off the cake like nothing else.

Melissa and Nathan’s reception was at Country Hills Golf Course.  It’s SO nice when I have a wedding so close to home in Hendersonville, especially after an early delivery to Brentwood that morning!  Country Hills is a great local venue full of friendly and helpful people and countless possibilities.  They actually had it set up different than I have ever seen and I loved it with the dance floor right in the middle of the room.

Moveable Feast put together an amazing Mexican Bar for the reception.  How awesome does that sound?

It was such a pleasure to be a part of Melissa and Nathan’s special day!  I wish them the very best for racing into the sunset together forever!

Allison and Cory were such a great couple right from the start!  They were enthusiastic, happy to be together, and loved my cake-always great traits in a wedding couple!  Allison and Cory tried a couple of cake flavors that I brought on a whim and ended up really liking them.

The couple was planning a 10:30am wedding at Cool Springs House in Brentwood, TN at Crockett Park and wanted to keep things super simple so they were set on cupcakes.  Allison said she wanted classic but casual and simplicity was a necessity.

They chose to get 11 dozen cupcakes in flavors of Vanilla, Red Velvet, and Pink Champagne, all with Cheesecake icing.  They decided on a 6″ cutting cake in the pink champagne flavor wrapped with dark and light purple fondant ribbons and accented with similar callas and small branches.  They decided to accent their cupcakes with dark and light purple fondant B monograms and simple blossoms.

I decided to bring a scrolling white stand to showcase the cupcakes, as I had been to the Cool Springs House before and knew it was full of beautiful old wood and lacy accents.  It’s such a gorgeous place, especially for a late morning wedding!

This couple had the most helpful and friendly family members of any I have ever seen.  They helped carry boxes, found Allison’s mom, Karen, when I needed to ask a question, and carried things back out again for me.  I never ask for help but it is certainly a pleasant surprise when folks offer.

Chef Christopher was just setting up the enormous breakfast buffet for the reception as I was finishing up and I have to say that I seriously wished I was staying to enjoy it!  It looked and smelled absolutely amazing!

Allison and Cory, it was such a pleasure to be a sweet part of your wedding.  May you always keep the spark you had on your wedding day!

I had the pleasure of working with Nikki and Matt through Carly Rager Events, though I had met Nikki’s family over a year previously when I was contacted to make her baby sister’s first birthday cake.  Nikki’s mom, Stephanie, is such an incredible mom and person and she’s been a big fan of my cake from the first time she took a bite.

Nikki had very unique plans for her cake and we drew it out during her consultation.  I still wanted to be completely sure she’d like it so I made a CAD mockup of the design and she was still thrilled with it.  I strive to make my brides completely happy so when they choose some elements I may have not put together, I typically do a design for approval.  One thing that is so important for my brides is for them to make the decision whether they like something or not.  This day is all about the bride, not about any other family member or friend that doesn’t share their same tastes.  Nikki was happy and that made me happy to oblige.

Nikki's completely custom bridal cake

Nikki’s cake design included fondant swirls in lighter and darker turquoise colors with fondant peacock feathers incorporated on one side and black and white gumpast calla lillies on the other.  One of my favorite parts of this job is that my brides are all unique and their cakes are typically completely different as well.

Gorgeous table settings

Nikki and Matt’s reception was held at the Cumberland Room in Clarksville and it was decked out like I’ve never seen before.  The linens and flowers were phenomenal, the flowers were gorgeous, and there was a candy bar the size of Texas.

Nikki and Matt had chosen turqoise linens with damask runners  and damask with turqoise runners alternating throughout the building and they could not have been more perfect.  There was lovely draping behind the cake in front of the garage doors and they chose to use china that was set perfectly on the tables.

The groom’s cake was to be a surprise for Matt.  Matt works out a lot, recently dropping a lot of weight and getting into really good shape.  When I met with Nikki, she asked if I could make something that showed Matt’s love for lifting weights…like maybe a sheet cake with dumbells or something of the sort.

Matt's stack of weights groom's cake

I decided to kick that up a notch for them and make a stack of weights.  The groom’s cake was Extreme Citrus cake filled with pina colada filling that was out of this world.  I hope the groom appreciated the extra effort of his cake.  I thought it would make a bigger statement to him and he would really get a kick out of it.

Nikki and Matt’s cakes

The bride’s cake was flavors of strawberry cake filled with cheesecake filling, vanilla with chocolate fudge filling, and chocolate with chocolate fudge filling, all covered with vanilla buttercream.  I have to say this must have been an absolutely delicious cake!

Nikki and Matt, may you always make your life decisions together!
