Adrien and Alan June 5, 2010

Alan and Adrien were married at Ocean Way Studios on beautiful Music Row in Nashville on June 5th.  If you are too busy to get around to reading about Ocean Way Studios, I took the liberty of lifting some info from their site…

Belmont’s Ocean Way Nashville Recording Studios, founded in 1996, is located in the heart of Nashville’s Music Row. Considered one of the world’s finest recording facilities, it’s client roster reads like a who’s who of the music world spanning a range of styles from pop to classical.

Housed in a 100 year old Gothic revival greystone church, Ocean Way Nashville provides an exceptional acoustical space tuned specifically for music recording and offers one of very few such spaces in the region.

It was a gorgeous day for a wedding and the studio was a unique and somewhat eclectic venue for a couple who works in the industry.  This venue is just beautiful with it’s rich wood floors, high ceilings, and of course recording features thoughout.

Alan and Adrien both love wine and that was apparent throughout the venue.  Colored wine bottles became clever and simple centerpieces with a single flower in each.  Different sizes and shapes made this very appealing to the eye.  The greens of the bottles were set off by votive holders in deep purple with flameless candles inside…a wonderful idea for venues that do not allow open flames.  It’s just a much safer option for any venue.  This said by a girl who caught her hair on fire as a child and has never forgotten how quickly a beautiful candle can become dangerous.

I love this simple but elegant feel!

Simply beautiful centerpieces

Alan and Adrien had chosen their favorite wines to be served for the evening and Alan chose a groom’s cake featuring a gumpaste wine bottle and grape clusters in a crate with a custom label.  The groom’s cake was a delicious caramel cake that I’m told was inhaled with not even a crumb left.

The couple showcased their favorites.

Alan's cake

The bridal cake was based on a design that the bride had seen in a magazine, fondant covered squares with horizontal stripes.  The cake was covered with fondant ivory and accented with stripes of Persian Violet.  I made fantasy magnolias in ivory and Violet to mimic the one large blossom on the bride’s exquisite gown.  The bridal cake was Sour Cream Almond with Vanilla Buttercream and fondant.  The middle tier was an extra tall tier to add another dimension to the cake.

Adrien and Alan, may your life together be simply stunning, just as was portrayed throughout your reception!

Allison and Kenny May 30, 2010

August 15th, 2010

Allison and Kenny found me by chance at a small bridal show at Latham’s Lighthouse in Hendersonville.  They had walked around upstairs and were about to leave when they noticed a few people going downstairs.  They didn’t even realize there were vendors down there and that’s where they found me.  They tasted my samples and had set up a consultation just minutes later.

Allison and Kenny were married at the Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, TN.  Their colors were to include a variety of colors including pink, orange, and green, which were featured in the table decorations that Allison brought along to their consultation.  It was the perfect color palette for a sunny and warm wedding!

Cute candle centerpieces brought splashes of color outdoors!

The photographer was Scoobie Photograpy who did an incredible job of capturing the couple’s most precious moments.  The food was of course prepared by the talented Chef David Cottrell
of the Hermitage Golf Course.

I must say I’ve never met such a warm and inviting staff at the Hermitage Golf Course.  It was my first wedding cake delivery to that venue and the staff was very friendly and accomodating all the way around.  The cake needed to be kept indoors until the time of the reception because it was a very warm day, as most of them have been this summer!  This was not a problem at all for the event staff who assured me everything would be terrific.  I did notice that in the photographer’s prints that the cake was “backwards” on the table-good thing I make sure it looks great from all sides.  This just gave the lovely bride the best view as she and her new husband cut it and fed it to one another.

The outdoor fireplace is a great way to showcase the couple's initial!

Allison and Kenny had chosen a three tier offset square design covered with quilted fondant with tiny edible pearls in the cross sections.  This was set off by a variety of gumpaste flowers, especially Pink Stargazer lillies, which were used along with Gerbera daisies in the floral arrangements.  The flavors were Traditional White and Extreme Citrus with lemon curd and orange cream fillings, a delicious summery flavor!  Quilting is my absolute favorite look of any cake design, especially on fondant when it can be so pronounced.

I truly enjoyed everything about this experience-the couple, the venue, the staff and the cake from beginning to end.  Kudos to Hermitage Golf Course for making weddings such a stress-free event!

Allison and Kenny, may your marriage always be an Ace in the Hole!

Joy and Greg May 15, 2010

August 14th, 2010

The weeks have been flying by without enough time to blog  it seems!  The cake has been eaten, the photographs have been purchased, but they have not been forgotten.  It’s time to play catch up!

Joy and Greg were married behind their home on an incredibly hot May 15.  If you had read my previous blog, you’ll know that weekend I fought rain, hail, and extreme heat in the name of cake.  Theirs was not an exception!  Joy fell in love with pictures she found on the Martha Stewart website that showcased three cakes of different shaped tiers instead of one.

Because it was an outdoor wedding, she had no choice but to include fondant and even then at 95 degrees, it plays havoc with cake designs in no time at all.  I found some really stands at Hobby Lobby at 65% off and was thrilled to be able to use them for Joy and Greg.

Joy liked a Damask pattern and incorporated it in small doses throughout her decor.  She wanted a deep regal purple color for the accent color and had a custom monogram created that I incorporated as an edible image on the cakes to surprise her.

Carly Rager planned the wedding and Danielle Lear of Turning Point Productions videotaped (is it still called tape?)  the event.  I have worked with the two of them several times lately and they are both very talented and professional.  I have no doubt that Carly could plan a wedding from an unlimited budget to a shoestring budget and treat each with the utmost class and respect, leaving no details unturned from beginning to end.  Carly recommended Sango Village Florist for the wedding and they did an amazing job!

Notice the Damask patterned table runner under this pretty bouquet!

Joy and Greg chose flavors of Red Velvet  with cheesecake filling, lemon cake, and wedding white cake with vanilla cheesecake filling.  There were 7 small cakes in all for a total of about 100 servings.  It was a very unique and elegant display of yumminess.

Joy and Greg, may the blessings be so numerous, you’ll have to wipe them away as you wiped your brows on your special day!
